What Makes Urban Playground Worth Visiting

Some restaurants are built around a menu. Urban Playground is built around experiences.

For Chef Peter Ayub and Debs, inspiration often comes from travelling, discovering the flavours of different countries and enjoying the kind of street food that tells the story of a place. Back in Maitland, those memories become the starting point for new dishes. Rather than copying recipes, they reinterpret them in the Urban Playground way; familiar enough to feel comforting, but always with their own twist.

That approach is what they call their version of global street food.

Situated where Maitland’s industrial energy meets its growing residential community, Urban Playground has become a place where people gather for more than just a meal.

Some guests pop in for a relaxed lunch, while others celebrate birthdays, host business get-togethers or enjoy an evening of music with friends. Every visit has its own rhythm.

The menu is paired with a carefully selected range of wines, cocktails and craft beverages, making it just as easy to stop in for a drink after work as it is to settle in for dinner.

Urban Playground is open Wednesday to Saturday from 12:00 to 22:00, welcoming locals and visitors from across Cape Town. Its central Maitland location means you’re never far away, whether you’re coming from the CBD, Century City, Pinelands or the Southern Suburbs.

And for those evenings when you’d rather stay at home, Urban Playground is also available on Uber Eats, bringing a little of the Urban experience to your door.

At the end of the day, Urban Playground isn’t trying to be like every other restaurant.

It’s simply sharing its interpretation of flavours, travel and hospitality, one plate at a time.
